Having a growth mindset is important in working with at-risk students. And also looking holistically at their needs is part of what is needed when implementing SEL or trauma-sensitive practices.This session will look at the whole child and the role of family and community.

Explore and Rank the 10 WSCC Components
- Using the WSCC 10 Components Summary document found in the resource section, divide up the 10 components between participants.Each participant should be assigned between 1-4 components from the summary sheet. (You can either cut them up into smaller segments or have each participant have a copy of all 10 components.)
- Before each participant begins reading, review the Jigsaw Protocol. Discuss as a team how the reading and “expert” sharing will occur based on the number of team members.
- Experts should share their assigned component based on the protocol.
Ranking and Prioritizing the 10 WSCC Components
- Now that the participants have a foundation for what the 10 components are in the WSCC framework, lead a discussion on areas of strength your school has in support or programming for these components.Identify any gaps or areas for growth in your school based on the components.
- As a team, rank the 10 components from highest level of implementation (where you see your school being the strongest in support) to lowest level of implementation (where you see your school being the weakest in support).Determine which you placed as the top 2 highest and the 2 lowest components.Discuss how you might influence these components in your building.
- Discuss how the WSCC components impact your classroom.How can you influence and impact learning in your classroom with the components in mind?
